Position Overview:
The Director of Advancement is the first at the Imani School. This position will
lead the development and execution of a comprehensive philanthropy strategy, focusing on corporate partnerships and major gifts. It reports to the Director of Finance and Business Development and is responsible for achieving a fundraising goal of $350,000 annually.
Responsibilities Revenue Development:
● Develop and articulate a strategic vision for philanthropy, with emphasis on foundation,
individual, and corporate gifts,
● Drive corporate giving campaigns, including initiatives such as corporate matching and employee engagement programs.
● Manage relationships with a portfolio of approximately 125-150 donors, corporate, foundation, and alumni.
● Implement and oversee a prospective portfolio of $500,000 to secure $350,000.
● Maintain accurate donor records in Salesforce, ensuring a weighted pipeline to achieve
fundraising targets.
Relationship Building & Cultivation:
● Serve as a vital representative of the Imani School at events to enhance visibility and expand
the network.
● Cultivate relationships with internal stakeholders to align fundraising efforts.
Strategic Communications:
● Collaborate closely with communications colleagues to refine messaging and marketing materials that support fundraising goals and donor expectations.
● Oversee the production of key communication pieces, including pitch decks, donor collateral,
impact updates, newsletters, and appeals.
● Develop content to amplify messaging on social media platforms.
Leadership & Team Development:
● Evaluate and optimize the philanthropy strategy to ensure alignment with organizational
objectives.
● Provide cultural leadership within the External Affairs volunteers, promoting authenticity and
accountability.
● Inspire and mobilize staff and board members to actively engage in fundraising activities.
Qualifications:
● A bachelor’s degree is required; an advanced degree is preferred.
● Minimum seven years of experience in philanthropy management, with a proven track record in corporate and major gifts fundraising.
● Demonstrated success in achieving fundraising goals and managing donor relationships.
● Strong leadership abilities with a talent for mobilizing diverse teams.
● Proficiency in Salesforce or similar CRM for donor engagement and fundraising metrics.
