Below is the list of the items that were discussed at the mandatory parent meeting last Wednesday, October 4th, 2017 as well as some upcoming payments, events, volunteer opportunities and action items.

As discussed in August 2017, $50 seed money per semester will be paid on behalf of each 8th grader. The $50 for the first semester is now due and can be paid to Mrs. Melba Mitchell on or before, Thursday, October 19, 2017.
8th Grade BBQ Sale Fundraiser [ALL HANDS ON DECK!!!]
Calling all 8th Grade parents!!! The Imani 8th graders will host a BBQ sale on next Friday, October 20th, 2017! This event is chaired by Mrs. Melba Mitchell (Faith’s mom) and Mrs. Tracy McFolling (Kai’s mom). As this is a big undertaking, we will need as many parents as possible to assist to make this fundraiser a success! Our goal is to use the proceeds from this sale to cover the cost of the 8th grade retreat.. Please contact Melba at (713) 261-7024 or Tracy at (713) 826-1727 for more information and to confirm your commitment to volunteer. The plan is to sell lunch to the students and plates after school to adults. Look for an e-blast or a form in your child’s backpack to pre-order your plates!!!
8th Grade Frito Pie and Nacho Sale Fundraiser
Calling all 8th Grade parents!!! The Imani 8th graders will host a Frito pie and Nacho sale on Thursday, October 26th, 2017! Mr. Little’s [Micah’s dad] has agreed to secure the fritos. We will need as many parents as possible to assist to make this fundraiser a success! Our goal is to use the proceeds from this sale to cover the cost of the 8th grade retreat. Please contact Melba at (713) 261-7024 or Tracy at (713) 826-1727 for more information and to confirm your commitment to volunteer. The plan is to sell lunch to the students and plates after school to adults. Look for an e-blast or a form in your child’s backpack to pre-order your plates!!! BETA will be across the way selling lemonade for the final week of Drink Pink.
8th Grade Retreat!!
The 8th grade retreat will be held at a campsite near Huntsville, Texas from Friday, November 17th through Sunday, November 19th. This is a wonderful opportunity for our 8th graders to bond and embark upon teambuilding adventures and activities before they transition from middle to high school. The Cost is $140 per students. Ms.. Y. Smith and Mr.& Mrs. Meade (Milan’s parents) will accompany the children on the trip as sponsor and chaperones.
Please sign the attached form as a commitment that your child will attend the retreat along with the $5 registration fee. Please send the form and $5 to Ms. Y. Smith on or before Wednesday, October 18th, so she can register the group. It is our goal to fundraise to cover the $140 cost. More information regarding the remaining balance will be forthcoming based on the success of the 8th grade fundraisers. Transportation costs are not covered in the $140. We will need 2 school vans that cost $75 each to fill up. Please note that there is some effort to get the transportation costs donated. If not, the $150 will be divided equally amongst the students attending the retreat. We will advise soonest.
Coin Water Bottles:
Spend dollars and save cents!!! This is a reminder to have your 8th grader continue to fill a wide mouth Gatorade bottle with silver coins only. In the past, this has amounted to about $60 per child/per semester. Our goal is to fill one bottle each semester. We plan to use the coins in the 1st semester for t-shirts/hoodies and in the second semester for the post-graduation week of activities.
Harvest Fest T-Shirt Sales Fundraiser
The 8th graders will sell t-shirts to the student body as a fundraiser. The 8th grade parents will be taking pre-sale t-shirt orders at the Harvest Fest. Mrs. Angela Daniels (Shea’s mom) will put up the seed money for the design and initial order of the t-shirts to be worn by the 8th grade parents and Ms. Y. Smith at the Harvest Fest to spark some interest! Angela will be reimbursed once the details have been finalized. More information to come as data becomes available.
BoxTops For Education
Please continue to save your box tops for education!!! We still intend to launch BOXTOPs as a school wide effort to raise funds for the 8th graders.
Due to the absence of The Imani Angel Football team, our Spirit Week Fundraiser has been delayed. As this is a huge fundraiser, we are awaiting details about basketball season.. If the program is a go, we will schedule Spirit Week around basketball homecoming activities.
Luby’s Spirit Night
Ms. Cynthia Mallard (Ayana’s mom) is following up on a possible spirit night at Luby’s. More details will be provided as they become available.
The Ensemble is still available as the Graduation/Prom venue post Harvey! Melba Mitchell is working with Ensemble Management regarding the deposit. More details to follow.
The Imani 8th grade BETAs will host the Drink Pink Lemonade stand for BETA today, Friday, October 13th, 2017 and again! Please stop by to purchase a cool cup of lemonade or 2 from our BETAs!!!
A special thank you to Pam Cormier (Joey’s mom) for organizing the Chic fil A Spirit Night and to all 8th grade families in attendance!!!
A special thank you to Melba Mitchell (Faith’s Mom), Angela Daniels (Shea’s Mom), Kristen Pitts (Dacia’s Mom), Cynthia Mallard (Ayana’s Mom), and Tanisha Dixon (Victoria’s Mom) for selling the Imani wristbands and bumper stickers on various occasions!!!
