Students learn geometry in style!
Middle school students at The Imani School left math in the classroom and headed to the Houston Auto Show to get a hands-on arithmetic lesson.
You might be wondering, how does a 1964 Chevy Impala, a chocolate 2011 Lexus coupe and a 2011 Mercedes Benz 12-passenger van relate to math? As any gearhead will tell you, the nicest rides have clean lines. Mathematically speaking, the structural design of automobiles is an example of geometry in motion.
Leave it to our middle school math instructor Mr. J. Henderson to find a unique and fun way to engage students in a subject many people think is important, yet uninteresting.
"It is extremely important for students to relate learned curriculum within the classroom to concepts of math outside of the classroom," Henderson said. "Objective based field trips are conducive to the retention of learning."
